Two kinds of stud in this collection
Sterling silver with semi-precious stones makes up most of the collection. These are 925 silver, often gold-polished, set with genuine chalcedony, quartz, topaz and onyx — flat-cut, checker-cut or faceted depending on the design. Gram weights are stated on the product pages, which is the honest way to sell silver and lets you compare like for like.
Ethnic tops — polki, Kundan and AD studs in antique or dual-polish finishes — are the smaller group. These are gold-plated over brass and match the rest of Odara's ethnic line, so they pair naturally with a jhumka in a second piercing or with an ethnic neckpiece.
Why semi-precious stones behave differently
Chalcedony, quartz and topaz are natural stones, so colour varies slightly between pieces cut from different material. That variation is not a flaw — it is the difference between a real stone and a moulded one, and it is why two studs of the same design can read subtly differently in daylight.
Flat-cut and checker-cut stones show colour and clarity rather than sparkle. Faceted cuts throw more light. Neither is better; they suit different things, and the product photographs show which is which.
Buying studs for daily wear
Studs take more continuous wear than any other earring, so material matters more here than anywhere else in the store. Sterling silver posts sit better in a piercing over years than plated brass, and are the safer choice for sensitive ears.
Check the post type on the product page. Push-backs are easier day to day; screw-backs are more secure and worth it for a stone you would be upset to lose. For a first pair after a piercing has healed, small and light beats decorative.
Care
Silver studs will darken over time — that is oxidation, not damage, and a soft silver cloth restores them in seconds. Do not use a dip or liquid cleaner on stones: chalcedony and quartz are porous enough to be affected, and any gold polish will strip. Remove studs before swimming, since chlorine is genuinely damaging to silver.
Common questions
Is the silver real? Yes — the sterling pieces are 925 silver with the gram weight stated on each product page. See Silver Elegance for the full silver range.
Are the stones real? The semi-precious stones — chalcedony, quartz, topaz, onyx, garnet — are natural. AD and zircon in the ethnic tops are synthetic, as is standard for that style.
Which studs suit a saree? An ethnic polki or Kundan top, or a larger faceted silver stone. Small everyday studs disappear against a heavily worked blouse.
