What you are actually buying

These are sterling silver — 92.5% silver, which is what "925" means — rather than silver-toned plating over base metal. That distinction matters for three reasons: sterling holds up to daily wear over years, it is far kinder to sensitive skin, and it can be polished back to brightness indefinitely rather than wearing through.

Odara states the gram weight on each product page. This is the honest way to sell silver: it tells you how much metal is actually in a piece, and it lets you compare two designs at similar prices and see which is substantial. Very few Indian fashion-jewellery sites publish it.

Some pieces are gold-polished sterling — silver underneath, warm tone on the surface. These give you the durability of silver with the look of gold, and they are noted as such in the product title.

The stones

Chalcedony (prehnite, rose, aqua), crystal and smoky quartz, black and red onyx, lemon topaz, garnet, howlite and pyrite. All natural, which means colour varies between individual stones — the variation is inherent to real material, not a defect.

Cuts range from flat and checker cuts, which show the colour and body of a stone, to briolettes and faceted cuts that throw light. Briolette pieces in particular catch movement well and are worth considering for anything you will wear in the evening.

Where silver sits in a wardrobe

Silver reads cooler and more restrained than gold-plated ethnic jewellery, which makes it the natural choice for handloom, cotton, linen and anything contemporary. It is also the collection to choose if gold-toned jewellery has never quite suited your colouring.

Care — silver is different

Silver tarnishes; that is chemistry, not damage. A soft silver-polishing cloth restores brightness in seconds, and regular wear actually slows tarnishing because skin contact keeps the surface moving.

Do not use liquid dips on pieces with stones or gold polish — the dip will lift the polish and can affect porous stones. Store silver in a closed pouch or box, ideally with an anti-tarnish strip, since air is what darkens it. Keep it away from chlorine entirely.

Common questions

Will it turn my skin green? No. That reaction comes from copper in base-metal alloys. Sterling silver does not do it, which is why this is the range to choose for sensitive skin.

Is German Silver the same thing? No — despite the name, German Silver contains no silver at all. It is a copper-nickel-zinc alloy. This collection is genuine 925 sterling.
