Bangles are among the oldest ornaments in the subcontinent — found at Indus Valley sites and worn, since, across every region and occasion. Kada, bangle, or cuff?

A kada is broad, heavy and usually worn one or two to a wrist rather than stacked. The pacheli style — a wide Rajasthani kada traditionally worn in pairs by brides — is Odara's single best-selling shape, and the openable versions solve the oldest problem in bangle-buying: getting it over the hand.

A bangle proper is a closed circle, slipped on, and designed to be worn in numbers. This is where stacking happens — mix widths and metal tones freely; the bangle has never been a matched-set object in Indian dress.

A cuff is open-backed and adjusts to the wrist. Odara's cuffs and bracelets sit in a separate collection, and they are the easiest entry point if you are unsure of your size.

Getting the size right

Bangle size in India is measured as inner diameter in inches — 2'4, 2'6, 2'8 and so on — not as a wrist circumference. The most common adult sizes are 2'6 and 2'8, and Odara lists the size in the product title where it applies.

To measure at home: bring your thumb across to touch your little finger, wrap a strip of paper around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in inches. Divide by 3.14 to get the diameter you need. If you fall between sizes, go up — a closed bangle that will not pass the knuckle is unwearable, while a slightly loose one simply sits lower. Openable and adjustable kadas remove the problem altogether, and a large share of this collection is openable for that reason.

Styling

Traditional wear puts weight on one wrist and lets the other stay light, or splits a pacheli pair across both. Contemporary styling stacks three to seven slim bangles on a single arm and leaves the other bare. Both are correct; what rarely works is an even, symmetrical spread across both wrists, which flattens the effect.

Oxidised and German Silver bangles read cooler and pair well with handloom, cotton and linen. Gold-plated Kundan and temple-motif kadas want silk, and generally want to be the loudest thing in the outfit — pair them with a simpler neckpiece rather than a broad choker.

Care

Bangles take more abuse than any other jewellery category — they knock against desks, doors and each other. Remove them before washing up, exercising or sleeping. Store them separately rather than stacked in one box, since the plating wears fastest where metal rubs metal. Wipe with a dry cloth after wear, and keep them away from perfume and hand sanitiser, which strips plating quickly.

What size bangle should I order? 2'6 and 2'8 fit most adults. Measure using the paper-strip method above, and choose an openable kada if you are unsure.

Are kadas sold as a pair or singly? Both. Pacheli-style sets are listed as "set of two" in the product title; anything not described that way is a single piece.

Will these tarnish? Gold-plated brass will dull with skin contact over time rather than tarnish the way silver does. Oxidised pieces are meant to darken — that patina is the finish, not damage.
